Exploring through creativity, growing through connection

Welcome

Creative Counselling Brisbane offers Art Therapy, Play Therapy, and Person-Centred Counselling with a compassionate evidence-based approach.

Why Art and Play Therapy?

Self-expression is essential for emotional well-being, but some people—both adults and children—may find it difficult to express themselves with words or may not use words at all.

Art and play therapy offer hands-on, sensory-rich experiences that encourage engagement, either alongside words or as an alternative.

These approaches offer flexibility, allowing each person to engage with the therapist and materials in a way that feels right for them.

Therapy is available for:

  • Children who express themselves best through play and creative art expression, experience big feelings, or face challenges with communication, relationships, transitions, or developmental differences and neurodiversity.

  • Teens navigating the emotional complexities of adolescence, seeking support with self-expression, social connections, or managing stress, anxiety, and other challenges.

  • Parents and carers looking to better understand their child’s emotional world and strengthen their connection.

  • Adults managing stress, grief, trauma, or navigating neurodivergence, who benefit from both non-verbal and verbal ways to explore experiences, learn new skills, and build coping strategies.

  • NDIS Participants of all ages who are plan or self managed

This strength-based, person-centred practice focuses on recognising each individual’s natural abilities, interests, and goals, working collaboratively to support personal growth and well-being.

Play therapy

Birds fly, fish swim, children play.
Gary Landreth

Play is the natural language of childhood—how children make sense of the world and connect with it.

In play therapy, the child leads the way, choosing toys, costumes, art materials, and sensory activities to express themselves, with the therapist alongside them.

Through this process, they are supported while they explore who they are, work through challenges, and develop new ways to cope.

This strength-based approach nurtures emotional, social, and behavioural development by building on each child’s unique abilities and ways of expressing themselves.

Through play, children gain confidence, resilience, and the skills to navigate their world.

Play

Art therapy engages the senses—sight, touch, movement, smell, and sound—helping to anchor people in the present moment. This sensory experience supports mindfulness and relaxation, promoting a healing effect on the nervous system.

By reducing the reliance on words, it can make it easier for some to connect with the therapist and share their experiences without the pressure of direct attention.

At the same time, art encourages reflection, supports self-awareness, and explores personal meaning and symbolism. It also fosters creative skills—like problem-solving, flexible thinking, objective observation, and technical art processes—that can be applied in everyday life.

Person Centered Counselling

A supportive approach for teens and adults to talk, reflect, and process challenges in a non-judgmental environment. With empathy and understanding, the therapist supports individuals as they explore what matters to them. This approach underpins all therapies offered at Creative Counselling Brisbane.
